That package center allows the extension of the NAS and is unlike competitive units extremely easy to use.

My highlights of the "app stores" are clearly Cloud Station, Time Backup and iTunes server.

In terms of range of functions the Synology DS213 + leaves almost nothing to be desired

Via the easy-to-use web front end I have the opportunity to make several adjustments to my device. I can add individual users, manage user rights, create and manage groups, and enable or disable numerous services.

It's amazing how good Synology maintains DSM and that even customers with older systems can enjoy new function again and again.

The DSM 4.2 operating system is industry leading and we love that the base install offers simple, no fuss network storage but that we can then add loads of "apps" to enhance the product in ways which suit our use.

As our testing has shown, the RS812 is capable of handling sustained transfer rates over 100MB/s when reading data and over 50 MB/s when writing data. This will be more than adequate for serving basic files across an internal network. The metal chassis is built to last, and with dual LAN fallover / Link Aggregation Support built in it should prove reliable over many years.

Synology’s new DS213air is bound with the usual plethora of Synology class. It looks classy, has great build quality and performs very well.
